Delta Wotan Odom 65r (Lycaeus)

A world. That's the first thing you see. A dead planet, all stone and craters, any atmosphere it might once have had scoured away millennia ago. No trace of stations, of starships or cities. No trace of anything obvious but the planet, the red dwarf star boiling away a couple of AU distant.

And then your ship's integrated intelligence kicks back a reading, the reason why this spot has been flagged as a point of interest.

High in orbit, a single frozen corpse strapped into a centuries-old space suit floats through space with its back turned to the dead world beneath it. Desperate hands clutch a chunk of tech, something like a black box– and by some miracle, the box still has power.

A mote-probe crosses the distance easily, interfaces with the box, then runs into a security wall. Scans sent through the mote reveal that there's no way to bypass it. Even as old as the box is, you realize that you can't get around or disable the pass-check without setting off the anti-tampering software– effectively erasing everything inside. If you had the pass-code, you could get in, but otherwise, you should probably just make a note of the box's location and move on to the next point of interest.
